T O P I C R E V I E WSpaceDustI need help in locating a place to purchase a truss for the Launch Umbilical Tower model that I'm building in 1:96 scale. It is the truss like the one below circled in yellow. It can be in either ABS or Styrene plastic. I have checked the Plastruct catalog and several other places on the internet, but I'm not able to find one like the truss pictured. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. Jerry Brouillette You might try a serious model train store. They have bridge kits and other scale models that are a good source for parts like this. Good luck!historyinminiatureIf you can get a schematic of the truss, you can reproduce it with a scanner and printer scale it, then get yourself a photoetch kit. Jay ChladekIt is very similar indeed to a couple bridge trusses I've seen. I believe either Atlas or Model Power have done one with that truss (or one very close to it). Given that HO scale is 1/87 scale, using one might be close enough in size for this project. Otherwise, you'll have to scratchbuild it.By the way, was that something adapted for the Milkstool Saturn 1B pad (noting the round gray area in the bottom of the photo) or was it on there for the Saturn V launches as well?SpaceDustThanks to all that have replied to my call for help, all of your suggestion and remarks have been helpful. Since this is my first scratch build model, I really didn’t know where to turn for things like this or how to fabricate the parts. It has been one big learning project. I do have a very good hobby store in town, but that’s the problem, it’s WAY across town and is not a quick drive. I have still not found the part that I’m looking for and if anyone sees or knows where to get one, would you please let me know. Again, thanks to you all.As for the question that Jay Chladek asked, this truss was on the LUT during the Apollo/Saturn V days. This truss held all the swing arms onto the LUT.NASA GlennYou should take a look at this flickr photostream. It documents sctatchbuilding a LUT. This photo shows the truss you asked about.Saturn VHave you tried this guy? He may be able to help: launchcomplexmodels.com mslekarWOW hey NASA Glenn, who is the guy building the tower on the flickr photostream, very impressive! Thanks.NASA Glennmslekar, I don't know him but it was posted through a Yahoo Group called space-modelers. There was also another related yahoo group trying to assemble their Launch Complex Models LUT kits which apparently suffered problems and were not complete.apolloprojecktI'm building it also 1/144, but there is no manual by this kit. Everyone that has bought this kit has the same problem. BrianBIf you can send me a drawing, I would be happy to cut one out on our laser.SpaceDustI would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian Buchan for stepping forward and making the trusses that I needed so desperately. The quality of his workmanship exceeded my expectations and the trusses were made exactly to my specifications (see photo above). The model that I’m working on would not have looked correct without him coming forward and taking on this project. If you need a cut model part you may want to give Brian a shout at northernlaser.com. Brian, again many thanks! I really appreciated your time and help.
